ster workspace
Validate, persist, activate, and inspect canonical contrastive pair sets.
Import existing data#
ster workspace import-pairs <SOURCE> [--name <ID>]SOURCE is parsed by the canonical PairSet::load boundary before any durable mutation. Accepted input is canonical JSON with optional trait_name and a non-empty pairs array of objects containing exactly positive and negative non-empty strings. Unknown fields and invalid items reject the entire document.
--name may contain at most 64 ASCII letters, digits, dots, underscores, or hyphens and must begin with a letter or digit. Without it, Ster derives an id from the filename. The source remains untouched; Ster writes a canonical copy into its data directory and activates it.
Results and duplicates#
imported— a new validated canonical copy and manifest entry were committed.unchanged— identical canonical content already exists; Ster keeps one copy and makes it active.conflicting— the requested or derived id points at different content; nothing is overwritten.rejected— validation failed; no partial pair set or manifest entry remains.
The JSON report includes source, status, and, when applicable, id, durable path, pair count, and a non-secret reason. Import never prints prompt contents.
Inspect and reuse#
ster workspace showThe summary lists imported ids, source and durable paths, pair counts, and the active marker. Omit --pairs on train, optimize, evaluate, pairs inspect, tune dpo, or tune reward to reuse the active destination. An explicit --pairs always wins.
Choose the active set, or take one out#
ster workspace select <ID>
ster workspace remove <ID>select makes an imported set the active input every pair-reading command uses when --pairs is omitted. remove takes a set out of the workspace and deletes the workspace's own copy; the source file it was imported from is not touched. Removing the active set leaves no active set rather than activating one nobody chose. Both print the same summary as show.
An id the workspace does not hold is refused with the ids it holds; select on the set that is already active is refused as already active. Ster Desktop lists the imported sets under Workspace and first run with Use and Remove beside each, through the same workspace/show, workspace/select and workspace/remove requests.
